Soccer City now open

74,600 football fans have attended the first match at Soccer City, the South African Cup Final - venue for the World Cup final.
Bidwest Vits (Johannesburg) beat Amazulu (Durban) 3-0


For the World Cup, its capacity will rise to 94,950 reduced however for this first match.


President Jacob Zuma officially opened the stadium, which lies between Johannesburg and Soweto. It was the last of South Africa's 10 World Cup grounds to be unveiled.



This year's World Cup is being held on the African continent for the first time.
2.6 million tickets have been sold, out of 3.0 million available. 1.25 million have been bought by South Africans.
